Amigan Choice Awards 2005
New: check out part II
As many people (particularly in #freebsd on freenode) know, I am very opinionated when it comes to applications. Most know I dislike bloat for the sake of eyecandy, and generally believe console apps are better than GUI equivalents. (not always the case). In this page, I attempt to list some of the best. And they are the best, because I said so.
The awards are as follows:
- Favourite editor: Vim
- Favourite mail client: Mutt
- Favourite IRC client: irssi
- Favourite MTA: sendmail (Postfix is OK too)
- Favourite window manager(s): Tied between WindowMaker, fvwm, and AfterStep (I currently use fvwm2)
- Favourite OS: why, AmigaOS, of course.
- Favourite Non-Unix PC OS: BeOS
- Favourite PC Unix: None other than FreeBSD
- Favourite shell: /bin/tcsh.
- Favourite AIM client: Tie between naim and pork (I also use Gaim on my workstation)
- Favourite IM system: Jabber
- Favourite Webserver: None other than the god of webservers Himself
- Favourite Web browser: Tough choice: Opera, and when I can't use opera, firefox (or Elinks as a close third)
- Favourite Programming Language: C, of course.
- Favourite scripting languages: Perl and Tcl.
Some technical stuff that doesn't suck:
- Valid HTML
- LaTeX, the TeX typesetting extension macros
- /usr/ports/misc/jive with my patch
- The BSD userland
And also, here are some non-technical things that don't suck ('tis rather random):
- Old rock music
- Any TV show that isn't of the "reality" genre (that stuff pisses me off)
- Old synths and organs
- Lava lamps
- Any tea (favourite is Earl Grey)
- LPs
- Manual SLRs (though my Minolta Maxxum 5000 isn't too shabby, either)
- Stuff that isn't new
- People who don't write like they are semi-literate
- 100.7 WZLX, one of the only good radio stations in my area (and even the area part is pushing it)
- The Simpsons
I probably forgot something. If (and only if) you are positive of this, email me. If you disagree, you are simply wrong.
